V3 prototype

In 1934 the National Association of Automobolindustrie (RDA) concluded with Ferdinand Porsche a contract for the development contract of the vehicle under the condition of strict compliance with the target price of 1,000 Reichsmarks.

In early 1936, has begun construction of prototypes V3, which already largely corresponded to the later VW Beetle in its fundamentals. Even the air-cooled boxer engine, independent suspension and developed by Porsche torsion bar suspension of V3 already met the later prototypes Type 30 and Type 60th

In June 1936, the vehicle has already been presented to the Reich leadership and in October 1936 the first of three prototypes was handed over to the RDA. The V3 was examined by the RDA through their paces over a period of two months and received much praise and recognition. Fearing industrial espionage all prototypes were destroyed after the completion of successful testing.

prototype V30

After the V3 prototypes were tested by the National Association of the Automotive Industry (RDA) through its paces, Porsche received an order for 30 prototypes for further testing and development of the KDF-car manufacture.

The 30 vehicles of the Porsche test series "Type E60 V30" were some time later handed over to the German Army and alternately tested by 200 riders strong test team in the toughest conditions.

The headlights were moved compared to V3 in the fenders and had so reached their final position. The aim of this test runs was to examine the Grundkondtruktion and materials used of the "people's car" in their longevity and to further improvements feed into the ongoing development. Just like the vehicles V3 series is proven, the V30 prototype. Another important step towards the KDF-Wagen was done.

As the three copies of the V3 test series as well as all 30 cars of the V30 series were destroyed for fear of industrial espionage after completion of the tests.
